Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to introduce a new type of analysis method to seek the actual working performance of the regulatable dry gas seal, including equilibrium film thickness, stiffness-leakage ratio and so on. Additionally, a parametric optimization of the hydrostatic structure is completed for this kind of seal.

Design/methodology/approach

From the point of axial force balance based on gas lubrication theory, a new analysis method, the Gas Film Divided Method, has been introduced. A four-factor and three-level hydrostatic structural parameters test scheme is designed by means of Central Composite Design test and then the hydrostatic structural parameters of regulatable dry gas seal were optimized. Three types of regulatable dry gas seal have been designed and manufactured to verify the theoretical analysis by measuring the equilibrium film thickness and inward leakage.

Findings

The results indicate that the numerical values of the Gas Film Divided (GFD) method agree well with the experimental ones. Test proves that the Central Composite Design test could achieve optimized hydrostatic structural parameters of regulatable dry gas seal effectively.

Research limitations/implications

For validating the correctness of the GFD method, an experiment study of the regulatable dry gas seal is being carried out where atmosphere is selected as the lubricant for the sake of safety. Soon after, the author will discuss the application in the new paper.

Originality/value

The introduction of the GFD method proffers important insights to seek the performances of regulatable dry gas seal under the actual working conditions. The detailed optimal values of the hydrostatic structural parameters were given by the theoretical research which may be helpful for the design of regulatable dry gas seal.

Abstract

Purpose

This study primarily aims to investigate the indirect and direct effects of cultural heritage rejuvenation experience quality on tourists' revisiting intention through memorable tourism experiences and destination image in the context of cultural heritage tourism.

Design/methodology/approach

A structural equation modeling test with maximum likelihood estimation was used to test structural relationships between variables in the proposed model using the responses of 461 participants.

Findings

The results indicated that the cultural heritage rejuvenation experience quality exerted a significant positive impact on memorable tourism experiences. Destination image and memorable tourism experiences positively correlated with tourists' revisiting intention. Destination image and memorable tourism experiences partially mediated the correlation between cultural heritage rejuvenation experience quality and revisiting intention.

Originality/value

The study shows that it is meaningful to include memorable tourism experiences and destination image in tourism destination quality–loyalty models and confirms that the cultural heritage rejuvenation experience quality should be viewed as crucial aspects of marketing strategies aimed at improving memorable tourism experiences, destination image, and revisiting intention.

Abstract

Although there has been considerable growth in the higher education systems of Turkey and China in about the last two decades, there is still a room for development in enabling equity in all regions, increasing opportunities and resources regardless of socio-economic status or gender differences. Students coming from disadvantaged backgrounds do not have enough tools to change their fate for the better due to the accumulated barriers they face. Given this background, the chapter discusses how the barriers to equitable HE admissions relate to each other and which one has a greater negative impact over the Accumulated Conversion Barriers Modal we propose defined by personal, discriminatory, institutional, and geographical barriers. The perspectives of Turkish and Chinese HE stakeholders were examined through 21 in-depth interviews that were subjected to content analysis and interpreted in a comparative style using the lens of Capabilities Approach of Sen. We also offer policy suggestions to increase students’ conversion capacities for better outcomes to serve both the national and the international educational contexts owing to the adaptable nature of our modal to other countries experiencing similar issues in their higher education systems.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to explore the dynamics and stability of switched supply system considering the influence of the retailer competition and deteriorating items.

Design/methodology/approach

A discrete dynamic switched model is developed to analyze the evolution process of the switched supply chain. The existence and the local stability of the switched supply chain are analyzed using an analytical method and a parameter plot basin.

Findings

The author finds the switched supply chain will exhibit stable, periodic, and divergent behaviors with different parameters due to the system’s switching mechanism and the switched supply chain presents complex dynamics when the stable and unstable subsystem coexist.

Originality/value

The originality and value of the research rests on this paper considering the influence of the retailers’ competition and deteriorating items on the supply chain dynamics under stock-dependent demand. The obtained results provide the decision maker with some guidelines on how to make stable designs for the switched supply chain design according to the parameter values.
